Hormone Levels

I have been suffering with VVS for about 9 months. My tissue is inflamed and red and it is painful to sit/can't wear jeans/can't use tampons, etc. My urethra also hurts terribly. I have seen many specialists and no one can seem to help me. I finally got a hormone test done and found out that my estradiol is 33 pg/ml and testosterone level is 14 ng/dl. I know that hormone levels can shift; however, this test was taken on or about day 14 of my cycle, so I would think that my levels should peak (or at least my estrogen would peak during this time). I am 27 years old so I am also wondering if my levels are normal for my age? I believe that they are low, but wanted to get a feel for what a normal range is for someone my age. And also determine if my problems may be a result of low hormones? I had a doctor do a vaginal swab and she found many immature cells. All STDs, bacterial infections, yeast, etc. have been ruled out. Could I be suffering from vaginal atrophy at 27?

Re: Hormone Levels

if you have been on hormonal contraceptive, anti-androgen for acne, medications for endometriosis, or have surgery on your ovaries, this can explain your low hormone levels. The most important value is the free testosterone level which requires SHBG and albumin to calculate this.

Re: Hormone Levels

Interesting b/c my free testosterone level was 1.2 according to Quest (range provided by Quest is 1.0-8.5) and this was also taken at day 14 of my cycle. Would it be valuable for me to get a doctor to test my SHBG and albumin level as well, or is the free testosterone level enough on its own to be an indicator of a hormone inbalance?

Re: Hormone Levels

Yes a SHBG level would be good to know. Ask your doctor to test you for all your hormone levels.

Re: Hormone Levels

when the doctor says "anti androgen" does this include aldactone? If so, hard decision for some of us as that has assisted many that suffer from hair loss (or PCOS).....but now I have vulvar vestibulitis. Oddly enough I had stopped it for a year, but my hair got thinner AND the pain did not go away.
Any treatment options for those needing this drug?
I take 100mg daily and was about to switch to Mircette from Yaz or Desogen since my weight is up.
