TOPIC: Want relief from pain!!

3 years ago #23910

Want relief from pain!!

I have quite a problem with menstrual cramps. I have ever since I started my periods (when I was in 4th grade. I’m in 11th now hah.) In the last year, they seem to have gotten worse. My doctor has prescribed me everything under the sun and I have tried just about everything in the book. Nothing seems to work. I'm getting desperate here. Anything I can do at home? I'm trying to eat more veggies and drink more milk (if I could drink orange juice I would, but I cant)Its getting way out of control and if there's anything that I can do for cramps at all, I am WILLING TO DO IT.

Re: Want relief from pain!!

I am doing yoga in these days and I find it has a lot of impact on periods pain. Periods pain has gradually reduced for me.U can also follow some simple yoga and do regular exercise.

Re: Want relief from pain!!

helenicols, I remember my cramps being so painful there were several times where I'd go home sick from high school and curl into a ball in bed, rocking myself for hours. Midol was my savior for a while, then when I started on birth control my cramps started to lessen. Funny that although it's birth control, I stayed a virgin until I was 23 years old~ the birth control was SOLELY to help with my cramps! And it worked.

For the last four years the best form of birth control that has significantly helped lessen my cramps is the Nuvaring. So that's one suggestion and story.

Re: Want relief from pain!!

I also suffered like you. Birth Control pills helped some but I would take 800mg of Motrin, although driving is not recommended with this I believe. When I was older a medicine called "Cataflam" came out which helped me more then anything prior like Anaprox etc.
You may want to try it, it really helped me.

Re: Want relief from pain!!

Yoga can definitely be helpful with relaxation, as well as trying different birth control pills. Do you have any other symptoms...constipation, urinary frequency, urgency or incomplete emptying, pain with intercourse or pelvic pain when you don't have your period? If so, your pelvic floor muscles could be involved. I suggest seeking out someone who specializes in pelvic floor dysfunction: www.nva.org, www.pelvicpain.org, www.ica.org, ic_network.org, www.apta/womenshealth.org (and click on PT locator).

Good luck, amy
