birth defects / abstinence / estrogen testosterone cream

Like many of you, I am using an estrogen testosterone cream and was taken off ocps.

My doctor said I should abstain while using the cream for 3 months because testosterone is known to cause birth defects. I brought up the possibility of using condoms and she said that I would have to ask the pharmacist whether they are compatible with the cream, but that it would be better to abstain.

I contacted the compounding pharmacist and she said she would do some research and let me know. Although, now I am thinking I will have to also ask my other standard pharmacy to see if the lidocaine is ok.

Is this the same boat you all are in/did your doctors give you the same instructions?

Dr G, would using condoms be a huge risk? Do you give similar instructions to your patients?

Thanks!
