spironalactone and vulvar vestibulitis

Wondering if the Doctor or any contributors are aware of any association between aldactone and vestibulitis. I had to take this medicine 100mg daily for years as a result of thinning scalp hair that started in my 20's. My dr. combined this with Mircette for low androgen levels.
In recent years I was switched to Yasmin, because it contains spironalactone so they lowered my daily dose to just 50. My my hair was fine but I started to get vulvar pain during intercourse only, then I was switched to YAZ 3 months ago (after taking a 2 month break) and now I have thinner hair then ever and the pain is so intense during intercourse. I am about to increase the spironalactone again (dr. recommendation) for the hair loss, but concerned perhaps this BC pill and/or spironalactone since both contained it can be a problem since i read that the pain has to do with androgen receptors and both of my meds are designed to block androgens. Not sure which is worse, going bald or having the pain? I will take the pain......
Any thoughts on this drug? I know it is used commonly for acne, pcos etc. etc. but not sure if associated with the pain like BC pills are.
thank you!

Re:spironalactone and vulvar vestibulitis

Dear Kitty68,

Have you tried a compound estrogen/testosterone cream? I believe that Dr. Andrew Goldstein recommends this for low androgen levels. I've tried it and it really helps me decrease my pain from about an 8 to a 2-3. And it helps with low libido, too! I use 1 mL each night (don't let the doctor tell you to try it twice a week...It wasn't often enough to help me).

There is a great article that supports the idea that low androgen levels can be associated with Vulvar Vestibulitis calledmedscape.com/viewarticle/492121]Androgen Insufficiency May Lead to Vulvar Vestibulitis and Genital Pain. It's a medscape article so the link doesn't always work but just google the title and it comes right up.

There's most information like this at vulvarvestibulitisrelief.com/vulvarvestibulitistreatments]Vulvar Vestibulitis Treatments.

Good luck with everything!

Alex

Spironolactone can cause vestibulodynia (VVS). I ususally treat this type of vestibulodynia with topical estrogen and testosterone cream.
