Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome

My daughter has been going through hell with pain for the past year and a half. She was initially diagnosed with a urethral diverticulum which was surgically excised and the urethra reconstructed. She was fine for a few months, then the pain returned. She was a vibrant, 20 year-old athlete, a junior in college.
She has undergone so many procedures and meds ... I finally had to pull her out of school this past semester as she was back and forth from the east coast to the west coast 4 times between Christmas and Spring Break with several trips to the ER. She has had MRI's, cat scans, cystoscopies, trigger point injections of Marcaine under anesthesia.
Now she has been in hospital for 2-1/2 weeks on a Dilautid IV drip, She has seen countless doctors ... urologists, gynecologists, internists, pain management specialists.
It feels like there are knives stabbing her in her pelvic region and is excruciating during urination. They are all talking about Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome. Does anyone have experience with this?

Re: Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome

Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome is more prevalent than most people think, and recently there has been a lot more research on the subject. There is typically an issue with the musculoskeletal system--the muscles, nerves and tissues in and around the pelvis. She needs to see someone who specializes in pelvic floor dysfunction. Physical therapists are experts in the musculoskeletal system: www.apta/womenshealth.org and click on PT locator. There are other websites that can give you information: www.nva.org, www.pelvicpain.org, www.ica.org and ic_network.org
My book, Heal Pelvic Pain, which can be purchased on amazon.com, can you a lot of information as well.

Good luck, amy
