One lady mentioned in the Vulvectomy thread that DrGoldstein is doing less surgeries now that the 'birth control theory' is . . out?

Do you recall what that was about, Cindydenver? As far as I know he is still doing as many surgeries as before, and possibly more now due to the 20/20 show segment.

Hello new to this but after reading all of the information I am pretty sure I have the VVS secondary. How can I find a ObGYn that specializes in this condition in my area (columbus). My ObGYn doesn't know much - put me on vagifem. It's a low dose and not helping. Are there any possible treatments other than surgery?? I am physically sick at heart knowing this has no cure. Only symptoms I have is extreme pain with sex - so not alot of that happening anymore. Now I can see why depression is always mentioned. Has ANYONE been helped with medicine??

thank you for information.. I read the article and see there may be some options. Is there a website that lists the names of Physicians that treat VVS. I would like to go to someone that has knowledge of this condition. Unfortunately, the one person in Columbus that I know of does not take my insurrance and refused to see me as a self pay. I even offered to pay up front but they still said no.

I'm heading back to see Dr. Goldstein for my 8-9 week appointment next week. Ruth (that Rosy mentioned) was wonderful to work with on getting everything coordinated for my trip as well. The hotel next door to Dr. Goldstein's office in DC gave us a discounted price of $109/night to stay in a suite with a small kitchen. And this hotel was right across the street from George Washington Hospital, where I had my surgery. I'm sure there are other places to stay that Ruth can recommend, but staying at One Washington Circle Hotel was very easy for me.

As far as flying home too early, I waited until the Saturday after my first post-op appt, so about 9 days after my surgery, and my flight home to Denver was fine with no problems. I know that cheeky flew home right after her post-op appt and had a pretty rough time, but everyone's experience is different! If you are able to have a flexible schedule or at least stay an extra day or two, I'm sure you would be fine.

I think Rosy's figure of Dr. Goldstein performing over 250 vestibulectomies is correct. I remember him telling me that he used to perform 50-60 each year, but since the birth control discovery, he does about 20-30 a year.
