I am 18 and have been suffering from painful sex for over a year. I had previously had sex with partners that wasn't painful for about a year or 2, it turned up out of the blue.

The pain is during deep penetration and gave a deep feeling of pain to the left of my pelvis. I have been to see doctors and specialists, had several internal exams, been tested for infections (which were negative), had ultrasounds and had a laparoscopy which ruled out endometriosis and there was no scar tissue. I have polycystic ovaries but they do not believe this is the issue. The only option they have left is my bowels but i am not convinced that is the answer.

As far as they can tell there is nothing wrong with me. I still have painful sex although now the pain has spread to different areas, it is still during deep penetration but is not specifically the left side any more it is just generally painful. It is not constantly painful it is occasionally throughout sex but generally always at the start. I have tried different positions which helps and lubrication which has no effect. I am starting to think it is just something I will have to live with but if anyone has any ideas please help. Sex is supposed to be enjoyable and I am beginning to dread it!

Perhaps physical therapy is for you? It might be a problem with overly tight/tender muscles in the pelvic region that spasm during intercourse. This could be why none of the other tests show anything.

You might look into biofeedback therapy where they can teach you to control your muscles and relieve unwanted tension. I've read that the "Glazer Protocol" that some biofeedback therapists use is most effective for women with pain during intercourse.

I'm going back to the doctors soon, as though that will help! But i will mention it to them.

does this pain occur in any position? Does an orgasm change the discomfort (for better or worse)? Do you suffer from back pain? Do you have any pain with initial penetration? Finally, have you been assessed for pelvic floor dysfunction?

Did the physicians say your cervix looked okay? Sometimes the penis can hit the cervix causing pain, and some people have said to really damage theirs. . then again you were examined. When I attempt sex and it is deep I find that when the cervix is hit it feels like there is radiating pain into my hip. What kind of a pain is it? Is it painful when you are not having sex?

the pain is generally any position but some i.e. on top where its deeper penetration are very painful. Usualy i can tilt my pelvis to make it more comfortable, it just feels asthough his penis is hitting something which is why i didnt think it was IBS.

I cant have orgasms during sex but i dont think it would change it at all. I used to suffer from back pain around the time it started but that has dissapeared now. Sometimes it can hurt during initial penetration, its a 50/50 split as to whether it does or not. And no i have not been assessed for that, what is it?

I am not sure I follow the IBS connection; unless you have abdominal or gastrointestinal issues IBS is out. He may be hitting the cervix, like another person was saying, which can be uncomfortable. Do you have a "tipped" uterus? I would seek a physical therapist who specializes in pelvic floor issues such as painful intercourse. They can assess your muscle to see if there is any tension causing this pain.
