a surgical option for clitoral hypersensitivity?

Is there any surgery for clitoral hypersensitivity, perhaps something that will reduce the number of nerve endings in the clitoris? I keep seeing medication, physical therapy, and even anesthetics in this thread for clitoral hypersensitivity but i haven't heard of a surgical option yet.

i can't touch my clitoris without pain - this has always been the case. i haven't dared try sex due to this problem. i'm in my 30's.

when i first heard about Goldberg's surgeries on 20/20, i thought surgery would work because i figured that the pain was probably caused by too many nerve endings in the clitoris. but then, i am not sure if my problem is caused by too many nerve endings. i'm not even sure if it is possible to have too many nerve endings only on the clitoral area.

it seems like the other people who posted about clitoral pain had past injuries. i did have an injury as a kid so it's possible that this could be the problem but that was ages ago. i'm not sure.

The Doctor on the 20/20 segment was Dr. Andrew Goldstein. You would have to be examined by your Gyn to determine a diagnose and possible treatment.

Re: a surgical option for clitoral hypersensitivity?

Well of course I would need to see a doctor.
But my question is - does a surgical option exist for clitoral pain as it does for vulvar pain?

freemayo, we assume you were speaking about Dr. Andrew Goldstein who has been on 20/20.Have you
actually been diagnosed by a vulvar specialist?I am sure if you see one he/she will be able to tell you of the treatment options.

Re: a surgical option for clitoral hypersensitivity?

Any surgery will be the VERY last option. You need to get a full assessment from a MD or a PT that specializes in pelvic floor dysfunction. Typically, the muscles are tight or spasmed, pulling on the clitoral area, causing this hypersensitivity or the nerve is irritated, and that can cause a similar hypersensitivity. Or both. you need to have a full assessment of what is the cause of the hypersensitivity.

Re: a surgical option for clitoral hypersensitivity?

I have seen a doctor that I got from a list provided by a vulvodynia organization. She said she suspected nerve damage and there was very little that could be done. She prescribed lidocaine. I was hoping there was a surgical alternative to lidocaine that would fix the problem instead.
