I am 25 and been sexually active since 17, from the beginning I have never really had a sex drive, I get aroused when I meet some one new and that excitement may last only a month. But as the relationship progresses I go back to having no desire for sex. I am not on any medication and within the past two years I discovered that I could have an orgasm and that helps some. Lately I have been experimenting with vibrators, but even that feels like a chore. This has been the cause of major fights in 3 of my past relationships and I don't know what to do. How can a twenty something be missing her libido?

I've been off of birth control for about 3 years now.

Jennnnnnay,good grief all those nns!Well, maybe its time for a trip to your gyn for some blood work to see if your hormone levels are where they should be.You might be depressed also,but check with your doctor.

I have to count out the nn's every time I type it too! Everything I was reading made it seem like I should be 45 and going through menopause, thanks I will try and get with them.

jennnnnnay I just wanted to respond to your post from 2-22. You are not alone with what you are dealing with. I have wondered for years if it was normal for a twenty something be missing her libido. I am in my 20’s like you and I have tried everything. You name it. I have seen Dr. Berman, I have been on testosterone creams everything even Oxytocin nasal spray and nothing has worked. For now I am just waiting until something comes on market that will work for sure. Hang in there.

jennnnnnay and luna, I third your comments about a missing libido. While I have constant pain with sex due to possible vulvodynia, I still have not had a libido since dating my boyfriend of now 1.5 years. Before I lost my virginity to him I constantly had a high sex drive, but the minute I had sex all was lost. I find my boyfriend very attractive but I never have the desire to fool around, let alone have sex. I'm only 20....it does not seem normal. Have either of you had blood work done to check hormone levels?

cheeky- yes I have had them tested ... I am beginning to believe that this is caused by the neurotransmitter dopamine. Have you had your hormone levels checked?

No I haven't. Until I started having issues with vulvar pain I had a perfectly normal libido. But since October 2007 when my vulvar pain started, my libido disappeared. I thought at first that my lack of libido was in response to painful sex, and it could still be. I'm going for surgery in May with Dr. Goldstein and will certainly bring it up then. A hormone level test might be a good idea. Do you have a boyfriend? And if not how do you deal with dating? My boyfriend tries to be patient but enough is enough. He gets really impatient sometimes and I can understand that.

Hey Jenny and Luna, have you heard any thing else to be the causes. I have all the same problems, 20 and same story about no sex drive. I looked into neurotransmitter dopamin, which is a cause of ADHD which I have. I'm starting to think that neurotransmitter dopamin might be a reason to this.
