My story of experiencing cramps after orgasm

Hello,

I just joined the forum and this is my first post. I've had this problem for a couple of years now and only recently started looking it up from the internet. The anonymity of internet gives me first time a chance and courage to speak openly about this problem, which is new and relieving for me. Any similar experiences, opinions etc are welcome!

I sometimes experience menstrual-like-cramps after I've had an orgasm. It doesn't happen every time, but often enough to make me think why. After reading a little about it I found out I'm not the only one with this problem. So far I've learned is, that muscles contract during orgasm and since it is the same place/area contracting, it feels like menstrual pain.

I'm a virgin (in my late twenties, but I have my reasons..), so I have only experienced this after masturbation. A kiss on the cheek is the most far I have gone, so std's I don't have.

I've seen a gynecologist (sorry if I mispelled that, english is not my mother tongue) once in my life about irregular periods. I've had irregular periods pretty much always, but as I'm not active yet I was told it's not that much of a problem. I've had chronic pains since I was 15. Now my diagnose is fibromyalgia and a chronic pain syndrome. They all cause a lot of stress and depression in my life, which all affects the regularity of periods.

I've masturbated since I was 12 and only a couple of years ago started having this weird embarrassing problem titled cramps after orgasming. I've also wondered if it has something to do with my techniqué. I've never "stuck" anything inside me when I masturbate, cuz I just don't like it. I once tried and it only felt uncomfortable. So why do it. I prefer clitural stimulation, sometimes with a 'vibrator' (which is a small back massager).

I've noticed, that sometimes the cramps don't come if I take my time. They are more likely to come after a 'quickie'. Wondering what's up with that? How can the duration of stimulation make a difference? Then again, it doesn't always happen that way.

There's a lot of women out there with the same issue, I've noticed. And I am happy I'm not alone in this! Any replies, similar experiences, opinions and thoughts are grately appreciated!

PS. I as many others are afraid this might be due to something serious. Sometimes it can be, but before jumping to conclusions, it's good to do some research. This is a good webpage I found, which looks the problem at both sides: yourtotalhealth.ivillage.com/sex-painful-contractions-after-orgasm.html

Re: My story of experiencing cramps after orgasm

I know being dehydrated can cause cramps, but I never heard of having them after orgasm. Look up Zane Blues diet for the fybromyalgia because It may help and drink pleanty of water for the cramps. It may not work but it's worth a try dealing with process of elimination.

Re: My story of experiencing cramps after orgasm

Hi all,

I too experienced cramps after orgasm for years. And in my work as a sex educator, I have talked to many women with this issue.

My breakthrough came when I started training in massage and learned the muscles of the pelvis inside and out. I was then able to specifically locate the muscles that cramped after orgasm and then began stretching and massaging this area to relieve chronic tension. My cramps were always in the upper right hand side of my pelvis. I started consciously working on this area with self-massage, learning to breathe more fully and relaxing during arousal. Rocking my pelvis and moving more also helped. Now I am cramp-free and can enjoy orgasm again.

I hope this will assist you in some way. If you've been to the doctor and had a full pelvic exam recently, and ruled out a medical condition, I would recommend attempting to pinpoint the muscle group that is cramping and then begin treating it like you would a cramp in any other part of the body- breathe, relax, stretch, move and allow your body to take care of itself.

Good luck- let us know how it goes.

My best,

Christine
