TOPIC: Testosterone, how much is safe, and what is the best met

3 years, 5 months ago #15520

Testosterone, how much is safe, and what is the best met

I have a VERY small clitoris, which is a tight ball of nerves. I'd like to enlarge it, and my research says that the only permanent way is testosterone. I found an old post here about T creams, with that as a side effect.

I am concerned about the OTHER side effects of testosterone, and am wondering what the best approach is, and also what sort of doctor I should be looking for. (I think this is something that many doctors might not want to address.) Of course, I wouldn't want facial hair or a deepened voice! Does someone a) know the best way to start safely and b) a good recommendation service for doctors dealing with such sexual issues?

You might want to just start with your GYN.If he/she can't treat you at least they may be able to recommend a specialist and of course you need a prescription for testosterone.

Re: Testosterone, how much is safe, and what is the best met

You might have to go to several doctors before finding one that is willing or able to treat you effectively. Most just really are not skilled in the diagnosis or treatment. I tried two gyno's but finally got some results working with my primary care docter who worked with a really good compounding pharmacist. The dosage and the delivery method or even the base/cream/gel that it is compounded in may make a difference in how your body absorbs the testosterone as well.

I have noticed a slight increase in acne and a small increase in the size of my clitoris. Since using the testosterone I have noticed an improvment in my libido as well as my orgasmic reponse but I can't really say that the improvement in my response has any correlation with the size of my clitoris. It seems like that may help but for me I still need direct - either manually, orally, or vibrator - to orgasm so don't know if just having a large clitoris would help.

Before you start treatment I would suggest your doctor test your Total and Free Testosterone. Don't necessarily let them tell you that you are 'normal' just because your levels are in the lab range of normal as many specialist suggest the levels should be higher for healthy sexual functioning. Knowing your numbers before treatment also helps you compare after you have been using the testosterone to see if you body is absorbing. In my case, the Total is increasing but not the Free so we are still tweeking and looking at other factors such as diet and other hormones that may be affecting sexual response.

Just curious - how do you know your clitoris is very small? I know mine has enlarged a bit but never really thought to ask if it was small to begin with.......Anybody??

Re: Testosterone, how much is safe, and what is the best met

You are correct that topical testosterone cream can increase the size of the clitoris as well as affect the labia causing scrotalization (the start to look like scrotum). The problem is, in addition to the increase in size, there is often increase in sensitivity which can be even more irritating and painful than what you are experiencing. Furthermore, every woman's anatomy is different and before you sell yourself short, you should definately be evaluated by an expert in the field to determine normal anatomy as well as nerve function/sensation. You are also correct that there can be side effects related to testosterone use including hair growth, oily skin, coarsening of the voice, hair loss etc. I would be happy to speak to you about all of this in greater detail to help work through your symptoms, the best treatments available, as well as the risks.

Re: Testosterone, how much is safe, and what is the best met

lindaga35, welcome to our forums. Your doctor should have given you instructions on where to apply the T cream. Some doctors say to apply it to your inner thighs and lower stomach(just below your( bellybutton). You should rotate the application like left thigh one night ,right thigh next time ,etc. Did your GYN say how often to apply it?

Here is a link to one of our websites with an article about testosterone. It has good information and answers your questions.
