TOPIC: HPV mid life crisis

2 years, 3 months ago #39182

HPV mid life crisis

Many years ago an ex-husband left me with HPV. I had one wart removed and never had another symptom externally. Ten or so years ago I started having pain with intercourse - my best description is like moving a razor blade back and forth. The pain was centered around my urethra. After many years, many GYN, urologists and family doctors, one of them finally did a biopsy. From the
external tissue, the report states: benign squamous papilloma suggestive of
condyloma acuminatum. HPV. I knew that. What the doctor tells me is that there is nothing I can do to clear up this problem so that I might have a sex life again. I'm 50. This has been going on for over 10 years. Is there an answer??

Thank you for listening.

Re: HPV mid life crisis

Barb, maybe you should look for a Gyn that specializes in pelvic pain. At least get another opinion on what treatment may be available.

Re: HPV mid life crisis

The pain is just at the vaginal opening and my urethra. Does that qualify as pelvic pain? I don't know, I've been to so many doctors and not received any help. I'm pretty discouraged and more or less resigned to this being my life and watching my marriage fade a bit at a time.

Goodness that was self pitying. Oh well, sometimes you can't help it.

Re: HPV mid life crisis

Barb, since you discribe your pain as in the vestibule area I am posting a link to an article by Dr. Andrew Goldstein that may help you .

Re: HPV mid life crisis

I know it has been awhile and apologize for bumping and old thread. I did read the article and although some of these symptoms are similar, it really does not describe me. What I understand is that I have scarring just inside the vagina, near the urethra. Whatever it is, I have severe itch at times and pain on intercourse. I'm now 51 and again, I haven't had a normal sexual relationship in over 10 years. Is there anything you can suggest that would put me on the right path to get some help? I really would like to have my normal life back. Thanks for listening.

Re: HPV mid life crisis

HI Barb, I am surprised that none of the doctors who have seen you have not given you more help.It might be better for you to see a doctor who deals with cancer related problems. Not saying you have cancer just that that kind of doctor may have more insight . I am giving you a link to a site that may give you a little more info to work with.
