Clitoris desensitized from use of a vibrator-HELP

I have realized the use of a vibrator has caused me to be unable to have an orgasm. No matter how many people say that it DOESN'T cause numbness, etc, they are incorrect because I am living proof. I was using a vibrator about two times a week and sometimes more on a weekend with my fiance. This was over the course of about three years. Then I started noticing that it took a stronger vib and bigger dildos to be able to have an orgasm.

Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, how long does it take for your clitoris to regain the sensitivity enough to climax from manual stimulation (hands, tongue)???? I tried reading posts and blogs all over the WWW and all I found was people saying "weeks" and noone stating if there was a more definitive time frame or if there was anything that could be done to help heighten the sensitivity while the clitoris "heals". I have stopped using a vibrator, what else can I do? This is REALLY important to me.

If anyone has had the same problem, please post your answer. Thanks!!

Re: Clitoris desensitized from use of a vibrator-HELP

Basically, it appears you have indeed become desensitized, but only a health care provider can tell for sure. Continue using penile-vaginal intercourse and regular foreplay. In time the clitoris should regain its sensitivity. The time varies from person to person, but for now it's important to stay away from those adult toys. You might want to see your gyn to make sure there are no other issues.

Clitrodynia iis a subset of vulvodyina caused by damage to the nerves supplying the clitoris. Post-herpetic neuralgia is the most common cause but it can be caused by trauma to the clitoris from very aggressive masturbation, intercourse, or vibrator use.

Treatment are available- most commonly I treat this condition with Neurontin.

Obviously, it is important to find a physician familiar with this disorder to get the appropriate treatment

Re: Clitoris desensitized from use of a vibrator-HELP

Vibrators don't generally cause trauma or nerve damage. That said, if your vaginal tissue is compromised due to estrogen or testosterone deficiency and/or diminished lubrication exists, that could cause irritation and/or altered sensation. It sounds like you should be evaluated for nerve sensation/function and hormone balance/levels. Feel free to call my office at 310-772-0072 if you have additional questions/concerns.

Re: Clitoris desensitized from use of a vibrator-HELP

I have a question about this subject. When I gave birth to my 3rd son I had an epidural which in turn they had to cath me and I swear ever since I have lost almost all of my sensation in my clitoris. Is there any help for me it has been 6 years?

Re: Clitoris desensitized from use of a vibrator-HELP

Since we can't diagnose without an examination you should see your Gyn. and ask for an evaluation of your clitoral nerves. The doctor should be able to answer your questions.
