TOPIC: Having a problem with wanting to have sex.

Having a problem with wanting to have sex.

Hi everyone,
I am a 46 yr old female, I married when I was 17 and I noticed even then that I had a problem with wanting to have sex. I have low, low, and I mean low libido. Once every 2 months is fine with me. I have gone as long as 3 years without it. I just do not feel the urge.
From the age of 6 or 7 I have always felt really sick and tired. Really hurt bad, I could list all my symptoms but it would be a long one. Suffice it to say, after many, many, dr visits I finally found a rheumatologist who dx me a year ago with Fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid arthritis, Osteoporosis, Endometriosis and Celiac Disease. All within a 2 month time frame. I was deficient in Vit B-12, D, Magnesium, calcium, etc.
She tried putting me on Cymbalta, didn't work, Prestiq, didn't work, Wellbutrin, Cellebrex, Enbrel. You name it i've tried it. Everything makes the pain and fatigue worse. The only thing so far that has helped has been giving up the gluten due to the Celiac. I have also discovered that I have an intolerance to the nightshade vegetables, dairy and soy. Since kicking those out I have gotten slowly better but I still have no libido. This was what ended my marriage and it is severely affecting my 8 year relationship.
Now, I have had counseling because when I was 8 my mother tried to commit suicide in the bathroom by cutting her throat and both wrists with a butcher knife and i'm the one that found her. Plus, at the age of 10 I had 2 uncles by marriage who were child molesters. My father proceded to tell me very straightforward what was happening and to make sure I never found myself alone in a room with one of them. I'm wondering if this has contributed to this but according to the therapist I went to for a while that isn't the case.
According to my OB/GYN, my endo is not severe enough to warrant a hysterectomy. But I am wondering if this is what could also be affecting it.
I was dx'd when I was 20 with clinical depression, was put on a few meds which helped, but since I went gluten free, I have come off all meds. I have never felt this good in my life except for the libido problem.
I have had my thyroid tested, it's fine. My testosterone and progesterone levels are ok, so I was wondering if there are any herbs out there that might help?

Re: Having a problem with wanting to have sex.

At age 46 you may be going into peri-menopause. Has your doctor mentioned this. You may find some relevant articles on our menopause website. www.menopausewise.com and www.redhotmamas.org .You do have quite a few conditions working against you.Another session with a different therapist might be helpful. As far as herbs that might raise your libido that is an iffy claim.

Re: Having a problem with wanting to have sex.

First of all, it sounds like you need a new therapist. Your history could definitely impact your libido. Sex therapists can be helpful or a cognitive behavioral therapist (CBT) can be helpful in a different way. CBT may help more with the stress of everything that you are dealing with, and some CB therapists help with chronic pain.

Also, you should have a very detailed blood test done of more than just your testestorone, progesterone and estrogen. some GYN's that specialize in menopause can help you through this part of what you are dealing with.

You can also see a naturopath that specializes in women's health and menoapuse, to get a more holistic approach.

good luck

Re: Having a problem with wanting to have sex.

Thanks everyone for the replies, but I think I accidently stumbled on to something. The day that I posted this I had gone to the dr earlier that day because I thought I was having tonsilitis. According to my dr. he said I had an upper respiratory infection so he gave me some antibiotics and a generic prescription for Medrol. I believe its a cortisolsteroid. I'm not for sure if I spelled that right or not but it is amazing. I have never taken steroids before and I never wanted to because of all the bad publicity but I am totally amazed.
Within 2 days I feel calm. That's the only way I can describe it. No jitters, no feeling bitchy, cranky, thoughts racing, I have some energy, more that i've had but not where I would like it to be. But the most amazing thing to come out of this is the vaginal dryness that was like the Sahara is gone AND I WANT SEX! In fact, I've had had it 3 days in a row. That is unheard of for me. I've even caught myself dreaming about it. I have never done that before. Needless to say my sweetie is extreemly happy.
Now, can anyone tell me what is causing this and why?
I only have enough for another week. Will what i'm feeling go away once I quit taking these? I am not looking forward to going back to the way I was. Are these things addictive?
Anyway, thanks for listening and trying to help.

Re: Having a problem with wanting to have sex.

I would recommend discussing all of these changes with your doctor, or finding a gynecologist that specializes in hormonal treatments, or that treats pelvic floor disorders.
