I've searched the forums for an answer to this topic and found no information. maybe you can offer some advice.
Yesterday, i stopped my gyn oncologist from proceeding with a scheduled laparoscopic total hysterectomy because he insisted he had to remove my cervix. he tried to dismiss my concern that loss of my cervix would fundamentally change my sense of sexual pleasure since "the literature" didn't support that assertion. my feminist hackles got up at that point, and i started to explain that i enjoyed deep penetration, fisting, and alternative sex practices, but pre-op was not the time to educate the uneducated... My point is that removal of my uterus was one thing, but leaving scar tissue where my cervix had once been isn't acceptable without consideration and discussion.
i'm not a professional sexologist, although i am an SSSS member, and realize "the literature" for med professionals likely differs from the sexology journals. from personal experience, i'm trying not to suffer from the lack of coordination between the disciplines.
any advice, discussion from the sex pros here?

Don't listen to "the literature" on sexual pleasure and orgasm. You know your own body and if you search here for cervix or cervical orgasm you'll find plenty of other women who experience it.

Of course your health is paramount, but there ARE other options and you owe it to yourself to explore them.

i tried hystersisters. the discussions of sex are too heterosexual (and too vanilla) to answer this question. i've tried superdyke: a response from a nurse recommending going slow after surgery (duh), but not from someone who's actually had surgery. cindyandjoe.com has a good file on "surgery and depth" but they're not medical folks. sexuality.org doesn't have the info.
