Low testosterone

I am 32 yo, married with two children ages 4 and 2. I was just diagnosed with low testosterone. According to my doctor must women's testosterone level is above 14. Mine was >10. I am having all the symptoms that go along with low testosterone levels, lack of sex drive, fatigue, mood swings, slight weight gain etc. I love my doctor! I have been going to him for years but I don't know if I agree with his recommendations. He wants me to go on the pill. I was on the pill for about 10 years because I had "tender ovaries". I went off the pill in 2001/2002 and have not been on it since. I really don't want to go back on the pill nor do I think it is right thing to do. I have not talked to my doctor about other options at this point because I kind of wanted to talk to other people first before I make a decision. Any information in this matter would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Low testosterone

I'm not sure why a doctor would prescribe the pill for low testosterone. The pill doesn't have any testosterone. Why don't you talk to him about using a 2% testosterone cream? There's a good discussion of it in the Berman's book if you need backup. If you're careful with it, you can avoid any of the negative side effects. I've been using it for several years with no side effects beyond a slightly enlarged clitoris.
